Subject: [VUSHF] 432 MHz NAC 11/2003 (and some 2m) de LA0BY Date: den 12 november 2003 00:20 Hi fellows, this 70 cm contest was the strangest I have experienced. Since there was strong Aurora I decided to go to the portable location a little earlier, and take the 2 m equipment as well. I was hoping to access the duct to the East (reported from SM0), but the bad weather did not look very promising. It was raining in the lowland and snowing on my little hill. After arrival I worked some Aurora contacts on 2 m, before I discovered the duct was still there. I quickly worked a few UA3 stations and indeed made it into the LO-field. Just before the contest started, I catched UA4UK in LO14MA for a new ODX (2044km!!!). The 2 m report is attached... 73, Stefan (LA0BY) email la0by@darc.de homepage http://www.qsl.net/la0by/ phone +47-67139536, GSM +47-90114432 Contest Report from LA0BY in JO59IX at 432 MHz ============================================== Contest : Nordic Activity Contest Date : 2003 Nov 11 Section : Single QTH : Tryvasshoegda TX : IC821H + PA (2 x MRF648), 120 W RX : IC821H + preamp (MGF1302) Antenna : 2 x 13-ele-yagi, 7 mAGL, 500 mASL Log : TACLog by OZ2M, 1,994, http://www.qsl.net/oz2m QSOs : 42 -invalid: 0 Points/valid QSO -valid : 42 QSO-points (*1) : 19719 470 WWLs : 26 WWL bonus (300) : 7800 186 DXCCs : 9 DXCC bonus (0) : 0 0 ------------------------------ ------ Total score : 27519 655 ODX : UA3ARC in KO85SO at 1650 km Worked World Wide Locators: JO45: 1 JO67: 2 JO89: 1 JP50: 1 KO14: 1 KO38: 1 JO55: 1 JO68: 5 JO96: 1 JP70: 2 KO24: 1 KO85: 2 JO58: 2 JO78: 1 JO97: 1 JP90: 2 KO25: 1 KP00: 1 JO59: 4 JO79: 3 JO99: 2 JP92: 1 KO29: 2 KP22: 1 JO65: 1 JO88: 1 Worked DXCCs: ES : 3 LY : 3 OH : 1 OZ : 2 SM : 22 UA : 2 LA : 5 OD : 1 OH0 : 3 Top 10 QSO-points: 20031111 1808 UA3ARC 54 57 KO85SO 1650 20031111 1815 RA3AQ 539 599 KO85SP 1648 20031111 2106 LY3OD 579 599 KO24OR 1045 20031111 2053 LY2BAW 529 559 KO25KA 1008 20031111 1932 LY2SA 529 559 KO14LL 956 20031111 1843 ES5PC 559 539 KO38HJ 922 20031111 1941 ES2NA 529 559 KO29JL 790 20031111 1917 ES2RJ 579 579 KO29JN 789 20031111 1847 OH6QR 55 57 KP22BN 771 20031111 1929 SM1TDE 579 579 JO96BW 548 Strange condx. It sounded like poor activity but super long DX at good signals from time to time. Heard also UA3PTW (KO93BS, 1787km), RA3LE (KO64AR) and RX1AX (KO59EW). RA3LE refused to work me in the contest but was looking only for 23 cm stations!!! The rain and snow at my location did not suggest such good tropo condx. Worked RX1AX and OH1XT before the contest. There was Aurora all the time but due to the good Tropo nobody cared. OH, SM and OZ probably did not bother to turn their antenna to JO59, or was it the duct that was unfortunate?
